Kleptomania-Video Introduction

During college, I often saw posts like, “Who stole my takeout?” Based on my experience of being stolen, I wrote a script about thieves and made it into a movie called “Stealing Delivery.” When I made it, I wanted to create the effect of multiple endings as a way of exploring the thief's ideas.

The film was a success and led to a discussion about campus thieves, however, it was far from what I had originally envisaged - Why would anyone steal what they can afford?

Then I continued my research and make it to a game.

The game consists of two interspersed parts, reality and memories. In reality, the player watches and interacts with the plot in the form of an interactive film that advances Fei's actions. In Memories, the player collects, deciphers and dialogues to unlock the ending. During the course of the game, the player switches between reality and memories at a number of points.

At the beginning of the story, Faye Lee is stealing takeout and suddenly returns to junior high school. She is ordered by her mother to complete her homework in her room. Faye explores the room and discovers that coloured pens can bring her back to reality for a while, and Faye needs to find more pens. That's when she gets a phone call.

It all started with these pens, once Faye took a set of pens from a friend and her mum took them away, but Faye was afraid to talk about them and ended up being considered a thief by everyone. In the game the player is given a chance to help Faye Lee return the items, unravel the knot and change her life.

The player's choices determine the different endings:

By choosing to stop Mum from going out at the beginning, or refusing to return Faye's pen, you get the normal ending where nothing changes.

If you make the right choices in the storyline and collect all 5 pens, you get the happy ending: you wake up and realise that everything was just a dream!

If you make an inappropriate choice in the episode, you get the BAD ending: being caught in the act!
